Prof. Tang holds a Ph.D. in Accounting from the Australian National University and an MCom from the University of New South Wales. In addition, she holds CPA designations from Canada and Australia. Before joining Brock University in 2015 as an associate professor, she was on the faculty at the University of British Columbia (Okanagan) and a visiting researcher at the University of Washington in Seattle. Prior to pursuing an academic career, she was a senior tax consultant for two multinational companies in Hong Kong. She also worked for more than ten years at the Bureau of Finance, Local Taxation Administration, and Tax Audit Bureau in China where she was a division supervisor and took a leadership role in auditing complex tax evasion cases.

Dr. Tang's research papers have been published in Accounting Review, European Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Finance, Journal of International Accounting Research, The Journal of the American Taxation Association, The International Journal of Accounting, and others. She has received numerous research grants from SSHRC of Canada, the CPA Research Excellence center, CPA International Accounting Center, CPA Ontario Center for Public Policy and Innovation in Accounting, and other international institutions. She is the recipient of the 2021-2022 and 2016-2017 Goodman's Departmental Researcher of the Year Award.

Dr. Tang has been a reviewer for SSHRC and the Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong, AAA conference, CAAA conference, and a variety of academic journals, including the Journal of the American Taxation Association, European Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting, Auditing, and Finance, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, American Economic Journal: Economic Policy, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of International Accounting Research, Accounting and Business Research, British Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, and others. She was a member of the Education Advisory Group of the Certified General Accountants Association of British Columbia, Canada, from 2009-2013. She served as the Chair of the Accounting Department Recruitment Committee in 2020 and a member of the CPA/Goodman Institute for International Issues in Accounting Advisory Council.
