Maureen Donnelly holds LLM and LLB degrees from the University of Toronto, as well as a BA in French and Italian from McMaster University. After graduating from law school, she also earned her Chartered Accountant (CA) designation in 1980.

Donnelly began her academic career in 1984 as an Assistant Professor at Goodman School of Business and became an Associate Professor in 1994. She has taught courses in taxation and business law in the undergraduate and graduate programs.

She has been a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Niagara Tax Consultation Group, and the Canadian Tax Foundation. She has been a committee member of the MBA programming committee, the Scholarship and Awards committee, and the Zonta Club of St Catharines, an organization dedicated to advancing the status of women.

Periodically, Donnelly has been an exam writer for the Society of Management Accountants, and a faculty coach for the Goodman JDCC Accounting team. She has also appeared as an expert witness before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance.
