Ian Adamson received his PhD in Information Systems from the University of Waterloo, as well as his MBA and BSc from McMaster University. In 1987, he began his academic career at Goodman School of Business as an Assistant Professor and became an Associate Professor in 1996. He teaches auditing and information systems courses at the undergraduate level, and assurance database management courses at the graduate level.

Prior to his academic career, Adamson practiced public accounting, earning the Chartered Accounting (CA) and the Chartered Accountant in Information Technology (CA.IT).
