Dirk De Clercq is Distinguished Professor of Management in the Goodman School of Business at Brock University. He received a PhD degree in business administration from the University of Minnesota, a master's degree in general management from the Vlerick Business School, and bachelor's and master's degrees in engineering from Ghent University.

Dr. De Clercq teaches courses in entrepreneurship and research methods. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed journal articles on topics in relation to entrepreneurship, innovation management, organizational behaviour, human resource management, and business ethics. A central theme in his research is how different actors (employees, organizations, and self-employed people) leverage resources to address challenges and opportunities in their entrepreneurial journeys. The scope of his research is global, consisting of numerous single-country or dual-country studies that span five continents and more than 30 different countries, along with various multi-country studies that compare relevant entrepreneurial phenomena across nations.

Dr. De Clercq is a recipient of the student-voted Beta Gamma Sigma Professor of the Year Award, the Goodman School of Business Award for Excellence in Teaching, the Faculty of Graduate Studies Graduate Mentorship Award, the Departmental Researcher of the Year Award, the Goodman School of Business Distinguished Scholar Award, the Brock University Chancellor's Chair for Research Excellence Award, and the Brock University Award for Distinguished Research and Creative Activity. He also is a recipient of several research grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. He is on Stanford University’s list of the world’s top two per cent of scientists in terms of citations over the course of a career.
