Narongsak (Tek) Thongpapanl is a Professor of Marketing and Product Innovation at the Goodman School of Business. He served as Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Programs for two consecutive terms from 2017 to 2023, followed by a one-year extension through 2024. He received his PhD in Management and MBA in Technological Entrepreneurship from the Lally School of Management and Technology at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He also holds a BSc in Electrical Engineering (Magna Cum Laude) from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s School of Engineering.

Dr. Thongpapanl—also known in Thailand as .ดร. ณรงค์ศักดิ์ (เต็ก) ทองประพาฬ—is a Research Fellow at the Research Administration Centre at Chiang Mai University and Brock University’s Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute (CCOVI), as well as a Core Faculty Member of the Environmental Sustainability Research Centre (ESRC) at Brock University.

Dr. Thongpapanl’s research has been supported by numerous internal and external grants, including multiple awards from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) and funding from Mitacs. His SSHRC-supported research spans human-centred artificial intelligence and innovation management. As a co-investigator on the SSHRC Insight Development Grant project AI Companions at a Crossroads: Implications for Human Well-Being, he examines AI companions and their implications for individual and societal well-being. His earlier SSHRC-funded research, Innovation through Cross-Functional Collaboration, investigated how collaboration across organizational functions can strengthen innovation processes and outcomes. As faculty investigator and supervisor on the Mitacs Accelerate project Optimizing Vessel Scheduling and Routing at Algoma under Complex Uncertainty, he contributes to research with implications for the efficiency and resilience of marine transportation value chains. Together, these projects reflect his broader research interests in human-centred AI, product and organizational innovation, and value-chain optimization.

Dr. Thongpapanl has been recognized with awards for outstanding contributions to research, teaching, and service. Selected recognitions include the 2019 Brock Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching, 2018 Brock Michael Plyley Graduate Mentorship Award, 2016–2017 University of Canterbury Visiting Erskine Fellowship, 2016–2017 Goodman Distinguished Researcher of the Year Award, 2015 Goodman Departmental Researcher of the Year Award in Marketing, International Business, and Strategy, 2015 Journal of International Marketing Outstanding Reviewer Award, and 2015 CPA Ontario REC Research Grant.

In addition to reviewing for many respected journals, he served as Associate Editor of Technovation through 2025 and currently serves as Associate Editor of Electronic Commerce Research and Applications. He is also a member of the editorial review boards of Technovation, Journal of International Marketing, Industrial Marketing Management, Journal of Business Research, European Journal of Marketing, and Journal of Wine Research.
